June 20, 2009
Shani Gelles will celebrate her bat mitzvah on June 20, 2009. She goes to Gross Schechter Day School and is the only 6th grade officer on student council. Her favorite subject is math and she is a straight A student. She’ll be 11 at her bat mitzvah, but by her Hebrew birthday she’ll already be 12. Shani lives in Cleveland Heights with her parents, Joe and Mia Buchwald Gelles, and her brother, Noam. Her sister Ruth lives in Atlanta. Shani enjoys fencing, basketball, tennis (she was on the school basketball and tennis teams), and she will challenge anyone to a game of tetherball. She likes hanging out with her friends, messing with her Saba, Frank Buchwald, and goofing around with her big sister Ruth. She likes playing card games, especially Spit (which her mom won’t play with her anymore because it’s impossible to beat her) and Racko (where you try to get a stack-o, in your track-o, then you do the dance-o). Shani is also very active: She likes to run, rock climb, rollerblade, bike and ice skate. Shani likes to read, play with animals and go to Camp Ramah in Canada. She also likes beading, ceramics, and acting. And she likes little kids, especially holding Eden Gelfand.
